South High Alumnus Share Music

On September 1, six songs arranged by Dave Miller - trombone player with the United States Navy Band Brass Choir, and early '90s South High School graduate - were performed during former Senator John McCain's memorial service at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. One in particular was "The Juniper Hymn from the Planets" - Gustav Holst, which was played as the funeral party exited the cathedral. "The Girl with the Flaxen Hair" - Claude Debussy, was used as Cindy McCain entered the cathedral; the piece was chosen because of her hair color. Others included: "Simple Gifts" - Aaron Copland; "October" - Eric Whitacre; "Andante Cantabile (Symphony #5)" - Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky; and "On A Hymnsong of Philip Bliss" - David R. Holsinger.
