Secondary

The continuous goals of our student device technology initiative are:

  1. Teachers publish all course content and resources electronically so students have access at school and home.
  2. Students transition from paper planners to electronic.
  3. In each course, teachers identify necessary technology skills needed for their course.
  4. Teachers model and partner with library staff to teach digital citizenship to create a culture for how technology is used responsibly in our school.

A long-term goal of our student device technology initiative is to ensure access so all students can participate in a wide variety of learning experiences. Course-alike groups of teachers identify skills necessary for their courses. Other courses, such as High School Readiness, intentionally embed technology skills that students will need to be successful in high school and beyond. Over time, across all grade levels and disciplines, students have multiple opportunities to self-reflect about their technology use and skills.

Implementation
Sixth grade uses a shared model at two of the three middle schools. All 7th-12th grade students are assigned a personal learning device (PLD) for use in class and at home at the beginning of the school year. Teachers use Canvas to publish course information online and students use Canvas when completing coursework. Parents/guardians can sign up for Canvas accounts to monitor their child's progress throughout the school year.
