One-to-One Technology Initiative
The goal of our one-to-one technology initiative is to ensure access so all students can participate in a wide variety of learning experiences. By providing ubiquitous device and internet access, educators are empowered to plan lessons and activities that reflect real world application of knowledge and skills. Technology has changed our world. We want our students to be prepared to use it in ways that help them be critical thinkers and problem solvers. Equally, students need to recognize when technology is appropriate to use and when it is getting in their way.
Devices
Similar to the world outside of school, access to technology and information literacy skills are the gateway to college, careers, and many social settings. Our device deployment began in 2012 when high school sophomores received a personal learning device. By the 2020-2021 school year, all students in grades Pre-K through 12th grade had been assigned a personal learning device. The device provides access and opportunity, but is the means to an end -- educators and parents must help our students recognize when technology is supporting their goals and when it is getting in their way.
Funding
Student devices and network infrastructure are funded as part of the annual instructional technology operating budgets. Although the implementation details may change over time, our district is committed to ensuring students have equitable access to technology resources into the foreseeable future.
