MTSS Interventions
ACADEMIC INTERVENTION PROGRAMS USED IN FPS
Fargo Public Schools uses the following interventions for Tier 2 and Tier 3. Schools may use a combination of the above interventions, in addition to other building-specific programs, to meet students' needs.
Add+Vantage Math Recovery (AVMR) utilizes research-based learning progressions across a range of numeracy domains, observing and analyzing students’ mathematical thinking through assessment and instructional tasks, and plan responsive instruction that builds on students’ strengths, fostering joyful learning and strong mathematical identities. AVMR can be used to inform whole-group instruction, small-group lessons, or individualized support.
Bridges Intervention is a research-based math program designed for elementary students needing extra support. It features structured modules, hands-on activities, and visual models to build conceptual understanding. Used in small groups, it supports Tier 2 and Tier 3 instruction with detailed lessons and formative assessments.
Heggerty: Bridge the Gap - a series of systematic phonemic awareness intervention lessons for students in 2nd grade and above. The lessons can be used in small groups or with individual students who struggle to decode words automatically.
Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Curriculum - provides up to 35 weeks of daily lessons, focusing on eight phonemic awareness skills, along with two additional activities to develop letter and sound recognition, and language awareness.
Individualized Learning Center (ILC) - a semester or year-long course supporting students in a structured setting to complete regular class work with assistance on individualized skills such as note taking, test taking, time management, self-advocacy, and organization.
Number Worlds - is a highly-engaging, research-proven, teacher-led math intervention program that was built on rigorous state standards to bring math-challenged students up to grade level with Real World Applications. Number Worlds helps struggling learners achieve math success and quickly brings them up to grade level by intensively targeting the most important standards.
SIPPS ® (Systematic Instruction of Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words) - a research-based foundational skills program proven to help both new and struggling readers in grades K–12, including English learners and students identified with dyslexia. The program’s systematic scope and sequence provides a structured-literacy approach to instruction through explicit routines focused on phonological awareness, spelling-sounds, and high frequency words.
Sonday System - an intervention program based on Orton-Gillingham instructional principles. It incorporates the essential components of reading (phonemic awareness, phonological awareness, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension) and integrates a systematic spelling component. The sessions are systematic, explicit, and cumulative and they include a multi-sensory approach to the information.
REWARDS - an intermediate and Secondary intervention focusing on decoding multisyllabic words, identifying and understanding prefixes and suffixes, increasing word and passage reading fluency, building academic vocabulary, and deepening comprehension along with building confidence. REWARDS is rapid-paced, engaging, explicit, and systemic intervention instruction.
REWARDS PLUS - builds on the support offered to upper-grade readers by expanding on their newfound literacy decoding skills within a particular content area. REWARDS Plus expands on students’ skills by applying decoding skills to intriguing, authentic, content-specific text and infographics.
UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute) Foundations: An explicit and systematic program that teaches students the foundational skills necessary for proficient reading. It follows a carefully developed scope and sequence designed to ensure that students systematically acquire each skill needed and learn to apply each skill with automaticity and confidence.
