New Instructional Staff Information

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Fargo Public Schools! Our first priority is to provide the children of our district with the best educational leaders possible. We are excited to get to know you and assist you in your career with the Fargo Public Schools.

Step One: Document to Submit to Human Capital

As a new employee for the Fargo Public Schools, you need to have your employment file complete before you begin teaching in the classroom.  If you do not have the necessary information on file, please begin the process now.  Please note the following information:    

  • North Dakota Educator’s License.  
    • If you have not started the process, contact the North Dakota Standards & Practices Department at 701-328-2264.  The website is www.state.nd.us/espb.  
    • Without a current North Dakota teaching license, you will not be able to enter the classroom as a teacher.  
  • You will need to submit OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS from each college or university you have attended.  
    • The official transcripts must be sent (via mail or electronically) (directly to Fargo Public Schools / Attn: Human Capital / 700 7th Street S, Fargo, ND 58103/ or to humancapital@fargo.k12.nd.us   
    • Contact the registrar's office at the college and/or university to ensure that this has been done.
  • If you have been given credit for previous employment, you must submit service records from previous employers.  Service records can be sent via mail or electronically.  Fargo Public Schools / Attn: Human Capital / 700 7th Street S, Fargo, ND 58103/ or to humancapital@fargo.k12.nd.us   
  • If your address changes during the summer months, notify Human Capital by phone (701-446-1000) or e-mail:  humancapital@fargo.k12.nd.us

Step Two: To be completed with Human Capital

AS SOON AS POSSIBLE - Please contact Human Resources at 701-446-1000 to schedule a time to complete new hire paperwork.

An email was sent from Human Capital containing a link to your new hire paperwork.

  • Please complete the forms in the link prior to your appointment with Human Capital.

When you arrive for your appointment with Human Capital, you will need: 

  • Your original I-9 documents. (Social SecurityCard, US Passport, Driver’s License, Birth Certificate, etc.)
    • Photocopies or electronic copies cannot be accepted.
    • If you have any questions regarding the I-9, please contact Human Capital prior to your appointment.

At your appointment you will:

  • Complete additional new hire forms.
  • Have your photograph taken for your Fargo Public Schools Picture Identification Card.

All steps for Human Capital must be completed before we can issue you access to the FPS e-mail system and Employee Portal. These will give you access to updated summer communication and training material access. 

Step Three: Collect your District-Assigned Laptop

(Professional Teaching Staff Only)

Laptops for new staff will be available for pick up after July 9, 2024. If you begin the HR process prior to this date, plan to return to the District Office to receive your laptop, so you can complete online modules prior to the New Hire Orientation in-person event. 

Step Four: Accessing the Employee Portal and set up your FPS profile

(Access from home after receiving your login and password)
 - Click the Employee Portal button at the top of this page
 - Login: username@fargo.k12.nd.us

Important: You also have an FPS Google account, username@fargoschools.org; use the same login password for this account. It’s important that you sign into different applications correctly.

Step Five: Register for New Employee Training Sessions

How do I register for orientation and the August training sessions?

  1. As soon as you complete step 1 and 2 above, FPS will set up your Kickup account using your employee google email address (@fargoschools.org). 
  2. You will receive an email from Kickup, our district professional learning platform, to complete signup. 
  3. Be sure to select - Register with Google - and choose your @fargoschools.org account. 
  4. You will then receive an automated email with the dates and sessions below and links to register for each session. This will give you access to the online modules to complete prior to the in-person Orientation event. 
    1. Orientation Dates: July 17th or August 6th
  5. For now, add the dates on the next page to your personal calendar.
  6. Start the Orientation Online Modules prior to the In-Person Orientation Event. Select modules will be open to provide information and learning. The Canvas course will open July 9th. Access the Canvas course through the orientation registration on Kickup.
  7. Check your new work email a few times a week for updates throughout the summer.

This webpage introduces you to the Fargo Public Schools’ organization and steers you through the orientation and onboarding process. As a valuable member of our team, we want you to have the information and resources you need to get off to a great start in your new position - Welcome New Teachers Letter.

As a new employee, you will need to set up an appointment with Human Capital to start the employment process. Please call 701-446-1000 to schedule your appointment.

Here are the initial steps:

Step One: What to bring to Human Capital

 - Social Security Card (Payroll Verification of Name)
 - Identification for I-9 Form (Acceptable Documents List - See Page 9)
 - Voided Check or Savings Deposit (Required for Direct Deposit)
 - North Dakota Teaching License (Professional Teaching Staff Only)

Step Two: To be completed at Human Capital

(Located at 700 7th Street South in Fargo)
 - Form W-4
 - Form I-9
 - Background Check/Finger Printing
 - Salary Installment Sheet (Professional Teaching Staff Only)
 - Take Picture ID, receive Employee Identification Card, obtain access to employee portal and Kickup Registration

Step Three: Register for New Employee Training Sessions

(Professional Teaching Staff Only)

How do I register? As soon as you complete the paperwork above, FPS will set up your Kickup account using your employee google email address (@fargoschools.org). You will then be sent an email from Karen Moore with the dates and sessions below and links to register for each session. This will give you access to the online modules to complete prior to the in-person Orientation event. For now, add the dates to your personal calendar.
 
Start on the Online Modules prior to the In-Person Orientation Event. Select modules will be open to provide information and learning. The Canvas course will open June 15th. Access the course through the orientation registration on Kickup.

PreK-12 Special Education Certified Staff

  • Classroom Leadership & Engagement (Catalyst) – August 14&15 
  • New Hire Orientation: 
    • In-person All Day Event: 
    • Register and attend July 13 OR August 3 
      - AND - 
    •  Online Modules:  Complete seven hours of work at your own pace due August 18, 2023. Access modules when you register above for orientation.
  • Tier 1 Curriculum Training- (Elementary K-5 only) – August 7-10
  • Classroom Leadership & Engagement (Catalyst) – August 14 
  • Systems and Routines/Restorative Practices – August 15
