Fargo Public Schools sought submissions for names for the new elementary school to be constructed on the Horace Mann Elementary School site at 1025 3rd Street North, Fargo, ND. The submission window was open from October 10, 2025, to October 24, 2025.

This new school, scheduled to open Fall 2028, will bring together the Horace Mann-Roosevelt and Madison Elementary School attendance areas into a single, unified school community. The new name will be selected from the proposals by the Fargo Board of Education.

Per, FPS Administrative Policy 3260, in selecting a name, the Board will consider names of national or state significance. Additionally, the Board will give consideration to names that have a special significance to the area or to people who have made a significant contribution to education or to the school system.

Each member of the School Board individually selected up to five names from the list of those submitted from the community. At the November 12 School Board Meeting, the members narrowed those options to an agreed-upon top five. The top five names selected were: Prairie Rose, Horace Mann, North Star, Martin Luther King Jr. and Unity. The Board will select the name of the school from its top five at the November 25 School Board Meeting.

The Board has approved moving forward with the design and planning phases for a new elementary school located at the current Horace Mann Elementary School site. The project calls for the construction of a new, centrally located, three-section elementary school that will have the capacity to serve approximately 444 students in grades K–5. The existing Horace Mann building will be demolished following the completion of the 2025-26 school year to allow for construction of the new building. The Madison Elementary School and Roosevelt Elementary School buildings will be closed once the new facility is ready to open in Fall 2028.
