Stop for School Buses

Drivers, please help keep our students safe by using extra caution around schools and their adjacent intersections and neighborhoods. Please slow down for school buses and remember when a school bus stops with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended, you must stop.

That applies to traffic approaching from either direction. The exception is when you’re traveling on the opposite side of a divided highway or separate roadway with a median or barrier.

Once you stop, stay stopped until:

• The bus begins moving
• The bus driver signals you to go
• The red lights stop flashing and the stop arm is retracted

The penalty for illegally passing a stopped school bus was recently increased to a $250 citation. More importantly, stopping for a school bus helps protect the kids trying to get home from school safely.
