Fargo Public Schools completed its formal Cognia External Review in February of 2026,. It was conducted by a team of educational leaders who evaluated our district's policies, systems, and overall instructional quality. The review highlighted both the strengths of our school community and clear, targeted opportunities for our continued growth.

 

Celebrating Noteworthy Practices

The evaluation team recognized several areas where Fargo Public Schools (FPS) demonstrated outstanding institutional strength:

  • Supportive Environments and Community Connections: Our district maintains robust systems dedicated to learner well-being and strong relationships. These structures ensure that every learner feels supported while providing families, staff, and learners with consistent opportunities to actively shape improvement efforts.
  • Leadership Development and High-Quality Instruction: We have built comprehensive leadership capacity throughout our schools. By empowering leaders and providing continuous guidance for educators, the district ensures high standards of teaching and learning across all classrooms.
  • Data-Driven Continuous Improvement: Fargo Public Schools excels in using comprehensive data systems to guide daily decision-making. Through collaborative analysis of multiple data sources, staff effectively track progress and make deliberate adjustments to elevate outcomes.

 

Areas of Growth

District leadership has outlined the following areas for growth:

  • Empowering Learner Agency and Responsibility: We are working to help learners take ownership of their educational journey. Learners will be supported in setting personal growth goals which could potentially lead to learner-led conferences. In addition, learners will be guided to actively monitor and reflect on their progress using proficiency scales. To model this for our learners, all certified staff will also set and document their own personal growth goals to model this practice system-wide by the fall of 2027.
  • Integrating Digital Resources and AI: To prepare learners for a changing world, we will survey staff on technology and artificial intelligence adoption. Partnering with media specialists, tech coaches, specialized programs, and external partners, we will explore educational technologies alongside the creation of an AI Leadership Cohort.
  • Expanding Personalized Professional Learning: We are dedicated to offering tailored development for our educators. Plans include securing personalized learning opportunities, conducting site visits to innovative educational models like the Westminster School District, and sending staff to the Personalized Learning Institute.
