Flood 2020
-
Projections show that the Red River in Fargo will flood in spring 2020. The City of Fargo has asked for community assistance with sandbag creation efforts in preparation for the flood and placing sandbags to create dikes, if needed.
As always, Fargo Public Schools is happy to participate in community service efforts and use this opportunity as a teachable moment for our students. Fargo Public Schools’ eighth grade students have been asked to create sandbags at Sandbag Central the week of March 9, 2020. Students will go to Sandbag Central with their middle school team and teachers for one shift. The schedule is as follows:
Tuesday, March 10 – Discovery Middle School
Shift 1: 9:00-11:30 a.m.
Shift 2: 11:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Wednesday, March 11 – Ben Franklin Middle School
Shift 1: 9:00-11:30 a.m.
Shift 2: 11:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Thursday, March 12 – Carl Ben Eielson Middle School
Shift 1: 9:00-11:30 a.m.
Shift 2: 11:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m.Transportation will be provided by the school district for participants.
In order for a student to participate, parents/guardians must complete a permission slip and return it to the school office in advance. If permission is granted, students must be properly dressed in close-toed shoes, full pants, and clothes that may be stained or ruined. Participation is not mandatory; programming will be provided at the school for those who do not participate.
In the coming weeks, if needed, high school students will be asked to assist in creating sandbag dikes.
