AP Exam - COVID 19 Updates

  • Important Updates for 2021 Examinations

    UPDATE 02/25/2021:

Due to the widespread disruptions in instruction and student learning caused by the pandemic, CollegeBoard has created various options for testing this spring.  Rather than offering a single testing approach, there will be different testing options this spring that reflect the unique characteristics of each exam.  This includes different testing dates for each exam, with a traditional paper/pencil exam offered during the first testing window and exams requiring more mathematical calculations during the second window.  For many subjects, exams will be administered in a digital format at school o during the second testing window.  In these cases, our school will work with all students to assure that they have the proper applications installed on their computer prior to the test date. The AP coordinator can authorize students to take these exams at home if needed in the event of a COVID related event.

By now, all students planning to test should have registered and paid for their exam.  Some students may be unsure of their readiness for the AP Exam. AP Daily: Live Review sessions, April 19–29, can help students review course content and skills before exams. In addition, cancellation fees will be waived this year to give students utmost flexibility.

Fargo Public Schools has communicated with AP teachers and students to determine which testing date and format will be offered to give our students the best opportunity to achieve a qualifying score.  Tentative new exam dates and times for all AP exams offered at Fargo South High School are listed below under 2021 AP Exam Schedule.

If a student misses an exam date due to COVID related symptoms and need for quarantine, they will have the opportunity to take a digital exam on a makeup date.

    UPDATE 10/01/2020:

The AP Program is prepared to meet schools and students where they are this year. AP will support in-school testing in 2021 because administering exams in schools maximizes access and opportunity, and we'll provide a contingency testing option - that contains full course content - if school building close for safety concerns.

If students register for AP Exams this fall, AP will waive the $40 cancellation or unused exam fee so all students can register with confidence.

The 2021 AP Exams will be administered over two weeks in May:

    • May 3-7
    • May 10-14

Should social distancing still be necessary, schools will have additional options to ensure all students can be tested across multiple dates in May.

AP Registration Information

  • Taking the Advanced Placement exams is an important part of all AP courses. South High School
encourages all students to take AP exams for the AP classes that they have taken. Scoring well on
an AP exam can often earn students college credit for their high school class, saving a significant
    amount on tuition.

For the 2021 AP exams, students at South High School will be registering online. Online Exam
registration will begin on Mon, Aug 31, 2020 at 8:00 AM and end on Fri, Nov 6, 2020 at 4:00 PM.
The AP exam registration process is two steps, but both can be completed in one sitting when the
student and parent/guardian do this together. Even if you do not plan to take the AP exam, you
need to complete both steps to access the College Board’s AP resources. Both steps must be
completed in order to have AP exams ordered:

    • Step 1: Begin the process by registering at www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/350565. Here you
will indicate both the AP courses you are taking this year and the exams you wish to take. You
will receive your join codes and directions to complete the second required step. Any exam
fees will be paid online so be sure to have a debit card or credit card available before
beginning registration. Paying online is a great way to make sure that payment has been
      made while avoiding mailing payment.
    • Step 2: Use the join codes provided at the completion of step one to enroll the student's AP
courses and exams in the College Board's system.

This year each AP exam costs $100.00. Students who receive free or reduced lunch are eligible for
testing at a reduced price of $50.00 per test. South High School desires that every student be able
to take their AP exams. Students requiring financial assistance should contact Mrs Vanessa
Boehm, boehmv@fargo.k12.nd.us, in the Fargo South High School to learn more.

Here are the important dates for the registration process:

    •  Mon, Aug 31, 2020 at 8:00 AM - Registration Begins
    • Fri, Nov 6, 2020 at 4:00 PM – Registration closes for all semester 1 and year-long AP
      courses.

      will not be ordered.
    •  Fri, Nov 13, 2020 at 4:01 PM - Registrations and payments after this date will incur a $40
      late fee per exam.
    • Fri, Mar 12, 2021 at 11:16 AM - Registrations and payments after this date will incur a $40

    • Mon, May 3, 2021 - Last day to cancel an exam and receive a full refund.

Please contact Mrs Vanessa Boehm, boehmv@fargo.k12.nd.us , if you would like to register for an

Additional AP Information

  • The Advanced Placement Program, a part of College Board, encourages high schools to
offer challenging college-level work to able students. The Advanced Placement exam
scores provide an opportunity for high school students to earn college credit at participating
    colleges.

Tests are scored by College Board and results are sent to the college(s) designated by the
student. Colleges determine how much credit or advanced standing will be awarded to each
student. Students are advised to research the AP policies of the colleges/universities they
    are interested in attending.

The cost of exams for the 2020-21 school year will be $100.  If a student qualifies for Free
or Reduced Meals, assistance is available.

The ND Department of Public Instruction has provided some additional incentives/fee reductions for exams in STEM areas in the past
years. If your student qualifies for any of these reductions, you will be reimbursed for this
part of the exam fees after the exam is taken.
