Each year, the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction releases a report called the Levels of Determination Report Card. This report looks at how school districts support students who receive special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. For the 2025–26 school year, Fargo Public Schools received a rating of Needs Assistance (NA1) with a total score of 9 points. While the report highlights areas that still need improvement, it also shows important growth in several key areas across the District.

As the school year comes to a close, summer offers a shift in pace for many in our Fargo Public Schools students and families. Schedules change, routines loosen, and expectations often feel lighter. For some, this creates space for rest and renewal. For others, the loss of structure and daily connection can make it harder to maintain a sense of balance. As we continue focusing on creating more good days, summer is an important time to be intentional about what supports our well-being.

There is no single path to well-being. What works for one person may not work for another, and that’s not a failure, it’s a reflection of how unique each of us is. In the Fargo Public Schools community, students, staff, caregivers, and community members bring different experiences, identities, and needs. Finding the right path means being open to discovering what supports your well-being, even if it looks different from what works for others.

A good day does not mean a perfect day or that everything goes as planned. A good day is one where we feel steady enough to move through what comes our way. It might include moments of connection, a sense of purpose, or simply getting through something difficult with a bit of support. Mental Health Awareness Month invites us to pause and consider something more personal and just as important: what does a “good day” actually feel like?

In times of financial pressure, balancing a school district budget requires thoughtful planning, careful prioritization, and continued focus on supporting students and staff. Like many other districts, Fargo Public Schools has worked through challenging budget decisions. An important part in understanding how we do this is recognizing that the District’s budget is not a single pool of dollars, but rather a collection of separate funds, each with specific purposes established by law.
