If you are not currently licensed in North Dakota, contact the North Dakota Education Standards & Practices Board, 2718 Gateway Avenue, Suite 303, Bismarck, North Dakota, 58503, telephone number 701-328-9641. The North Dakota Education Standards & Practices Board requires all initial applicants for licensure to complete a fingerprint and background check. Please plan 6-8 weeks for this process to be completed. Secondary Teachers : Teachers assigned high school subjects (9-12) shall hold a North Dakota Educator's Professional License. Each teacher shall teach in his/her major field of preparation unless granted license to teach in another academic area, in the trade, industrial, technical and health occupations under Chapter 15-20.103. (NDCC 15-41-25) New teachers will need to meet the highly qualified stature set by the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) stature and the North Dakota Education Standards and Practices Board (ESPB) Middle School Teachers: Teacher assigned to a departmentalized program (operated in the Fargo Public Schools) must teach in either his/her major fields and/or have a major in elementary education with a curricular emphasis and a middle level endorsement. All teachers need to meet the NCLB highly qualified stature. Elementary Teachers: Every elementary teacher shall hold a North Dakota Educator's professional license with an endorsement in elementary education and meet the NCLB highly qualified stature. A teacher assuming responsibility for the instruction of five year olds in a kindergarten program shall have an endorsement in kindergarten or early childhood education recorded on the teaching license. Special Program Teachers: All teachers in special programs shall hold the Educator's professional license where required.North Dakota requires special education teachers to have a Master's degree in a special education field. |
